Following a fulfilling career in education, Patti Shales Lefkos now works as a Canadian writer and journalist. Her first book NEPAL ONE DAY AT A TIME, A Himalayan adventure travel memoir with a humanitarian twist, was published in 2020. Her second, GROUNDED BY GRANITE, A coming of age memoir of family connection and personal resilience framed by summers on a remote island on the Canadian Shield, followed in 2022.
Patti’s articles have appeared in Canadian and international publications: most notably The Globe and Mail, The San Francisco Chronicle, Macleans, Travelife, Canadian Living and Okanagan Life.
When not travelling, Patti skis at her winter home base at Silver Star Mountain Resort in British Columbia. In summer she paddles and rows at her Ontario island cottage.
Her work in progress, NEPAL IT’S NEVER TOO LATE, Redefining Love, Connection and Personal Resilience, tells of her recent 800 km trek, at the age of 77, with her husband Barry on Nepal’s Great Himalaya Trail. The tale of adventure also references her support of education and homebuilding in Nepal through her non-profit Nepal One Day at a Time Society.
