The impact of new technologies on Fiction and Non Fiction Writers

Chat GPT, Sudowrite, Bing, even Grammerly, are now all using AI to write (or “create content”) for the web. Writers are using these programs to write fiction, both for short story markets and for e-books. AI, or Large Language Models, have the potential to either irreparably disrupt the traditional writing markets, or, perhaps, transform them into something new. I have been following the developments and charting the implications of this technology from its beginning. I have been a consultant on AI policy for fiction magazines. In this workshop I hope to be able to help writers navigate this rapidly changing situation.
